The Feast of the Wedding at Cana of Galilee: "Whatever He Says to You, Do It"
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, One God, Amen.
My beloved children, the blessed people of God, spiritual joy overwhelms us as we celebrate the memory of the first sign of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Wedding of Cana of Galilee (ϣαι ⲛ̀ⲧⲉ Ϯⲕⲁⲛⲁ ⲛ̀ⲧⲉ Ϯⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲉⲁ). This feast is not merely a commemoration of a historical event, but a proclamation of Christ’s presence in our homes, His sanctification of the Mystery of Marriage, and a revelation of the depth of the relationship between the believer and obedience to the Divine Word.
At the heart of this wedding, a spiritual cry emerged from the mouth of the Pure Virgin Mary, the Mother of God (Ϯⲑⲉⲟⲧⲟⲕⲟⲥ), to become a constitution for every Christian soul throughout generations: "Whatever He says to you, do it" (John 2:5).
I. The Virgin Mary: A School of Obedience and Humility
When the wine ran out, the Virgin did not resort to human solutions; instead, she turned to the "Source of Life." With a few words, "They have no wine," she placed the needs of humanity before her Son and God. Even when He replied, "My hour has not yet come," her faith did not waver. Instead, she turned to the servants and said: "Whatever He says to you, do it."
The phrase "Whatever He says to you, do it" (ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲁϥⲛⲁϣⲟϥ ⲛⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⲁⲣⲓⲓϥ) is the practical summary of the life of the Virgin Mary herself. She is the one who previously said: "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38). She lived obedience before she spoke it, becoming the first model of total submission to God's will.
II. Faith that Precedes Understanding
At the Wedding of Cana, the commands of the Lord Jesus seemed "illogical" by the standards of human reason. The need was for "wine," yet the Divine command was "fill the waterpots with water."
Faith (ⲡⲓⲛⲁϩϯ): To believe God even when we do not understand His steps.
Obedience (ⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉⲙⲣⲁⲩϣ): The immediate response to the Divine voice without argument.
St. John Chrysostom says: "The Lord did not tell them 'I will turn the water into wine,' but He commanded them to fill the jars, so that the servants themselves would be witnesses to the miracle." Thus, God involves us in the work so that we may experience the power of our obedience to His word.
III. Transforming "Water" into "Wine" in Our Lives
Water symbolizes ordinary, mundane human nature, or perhaps the coldness of spiritual apathy. As for the wine (which symbolizes spiritual joy and the Precious Blood), it is the work of grace.
Without obedience to "everything Christ says," the jars of our lives remain empty or filled with lukewarm water that has no taste. But when we obey the commandment:
Sorrow turns into joy: Just as the confusion of the wedding hosts turned into rejoicing.
Weakness turns into strength: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13).
Homes are sanctified: Through the presence of Christ and the intercession of the Virgin, the home becomes a church (ϯⲉⲕⲕⲗⲏⲥⲓⲁ).
IV. Obstacles to Obedience in Our Age
We live in an age of "Ego" and "Personal Logic," where individuals find it difficult to submit to Christ’s word if it conflicts with their desires.
Christ says: "Love your enemies," while the world says: "Seek revenge."
Christ says: "Do not worry about tomorrow," while anxiety consumes hearts.
The phrase "Whatever He says" does not allow for selectivity. We do not choose what suits us from Christ’s words; rather, we accept "every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
V. A Call to Practical Submission
Beloved, obedience to Christ is not slavery; it is the "glorious liberty of the children of God." When we obey His commandments in purity, love, giving, and prayer, we open the doors for miracles to enter our homes.
The Holy Scripture says: "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves" (James 1:22). The miracle at Cana did not happen simply by "hearing" Christ’s word, but when the servants "did" what was told to them.
VI. The Intercession of the Virgin Mary
In our Coptic Orthodox Church, we believe in the power of the intercession (ϯⲡⲣⲟⲥⲧⲁⲥⲓⲁ) of the Virgin Mary. She is the "advocate" who stands before her Beloved Son pleading for us. Just as she felt the need of the wedding hosts, she feels our weaknesses, the dryness of love in our hearts, and the depletion of the "wine" of hope in our souls.
We lift our hearts to her, saying: O Mother of God, who guided the servants to obedience, guide our minds and hearts to submit to the will of Your Son. Help us to say in every trial: "Whatever He says to us, we will do."
Conclusion
May the Wedding of Cana be repeated in every heart. Let the commandment of the Virgin Mary be the compass that guides your lives. Fill the jars of your hearts with the water of repentance and prayers, and wait with confidence for the "touch of Christ" that will transform every bitterness in your lives into a joy inexpressible and full of glory.
"May our Holy Christ dwell in your homes, bless your marriages, and fill your hearts with His spiritual wine through the prayers and intercessions of the All-Pure Virgin Mary."

عيد عرس قانا الجليل:
"مهما قال لكم فافعلوه"
باسم الآب والابن والروح القدس، الإله الواحد، آمين.
يغمرنا الفرح الروحي ونحن نحتفل بتذكار أولى آيات ربنا ومخلصنا يسوع المسيح في عرس قانا الجليل (Sere n-T-Kana n-te t-Galilaia). هذا العيد الذي ليس مجرد ذكرى لحدث تاريخي، بل هو إعلان عن حضور المسيح في بيوتنا، وتقديسه لسر الزيجة، وكشفٌ لعمق العلاقة بين المؤمن وطاعة الكلمة الإلهية.
في قلب هذا العرس، انطلقت صيحة روحية من فم القديسة الطاهرة مريم، والدة الإله (Ti-Theotokos)، لتكون دستوراً لكل نفس مسيحية عبر الأجيال: "مهما قال لكم فافعلوه" (يوحنا 2: 5).
أولاً: العذراء مريم.. مدرسة الطاعة والاتضاع
حينما فرغت الخمر، لم تلجأ العذراء إلى حلول بشرية، بل اتجهت إلى "مصدر الحياة". بكلمات قليلة "ليس لهم خمر"، وضعت احتياج البشرية أمام ابنها وإلهها. وعندما قال لها "لم تأتِ ساعتي بعد"، لم تتزعزع ثقتها، بل التفتت إلى الخدام قائلة: "مهما قال لكم فافعلوه".
إن عبارة "مهما قال لكم فافعلوه" (Phetafna-shos n-oten ari-if) هي التلخيص العملي لحياة العذراء مريم نفسها. فهي التي قالت قبلاً: "هوذا أنا أمة الرب، ليكن لي كقولك" (لوقا 1: 38). لقد عاشت الطاعة قبل أن تنطق بها، وصارت هي العينة الأولى للخضوع الكلي لمشيئة الله.
ثانياً: الإيمان الذي يسبق الفهم
في عرس قانا الجليل، كانت أوامر السيد المسيح تبدو "غير منطقية" بمقاييس العقل البشري. فالحاجة كانت إلى "خمر"، والأمر الإلهي كان "املأوا الأجران ماءً".
- الإيمان (Pinahti): هو أن نصدق الله حتى عندما لا نفهم خطواته.
- الطاعة (Met-remi-en-kot): هي الاستجابة الفورية للصوت الإلهي دون جدال.
يقول القديس يوحنا ذهبي الفم: "لم يقل الرب لهم سأحول الماء خمراً، بل أمرهم بملء الأجران، ليكون الخدام أنفسهم شهوداً على المعجزة". هكذا الله، يشركنا في العمل لنختبر قوة طاعتنا لكلمته.
ثالثاً: تحويل "الماء" إلى "خمر" في حياتنا
الماء يرمز إلى الطبيعة البشرية العادية، الرتيبة، أو ربما إلى برود الفتور الروحي. أما الخمر (التي ترمز للفرح الروحي والدم الثمين) فهي عمل النعمة.
بدون الطاعة "لكل ما يقوله المسيح"، تظل أجران حياتنا فارغة أو ممتلئة بماء فاتر لا طعم له. ولكن عندما نطيع الوصية:
- يتحول الحزن إلى فرح: كما تحول ارتباك أصحاب العرس إلى ابتهاج.
- يتحول الضعف إلى قوة: "أستطيع كل شيء في المسيح الذي يقويني" (فيليبي 4: 13).
- تتقدس البيوت: بحضور المسيح وشفاعة العذراء، يصبح البيت كنيسة (Ti-ekkle-sia).
رابعاً: معوقات الطاعة في عصرنا
نحن نعيش في زمن "الأنا" و"المنطق الشخصي"، حيث يجد الإنسان صعوبة في الخضوع لقول المسيح إذا تعارض مع رغباته.
- المسيح يقول: "أحبوا أعداءكم"، والعالم يقول: "انتقموا".
- المسيح يقول: "لا تهتموا للغد"، والقلق ينهش القلوب.
إن عبارة "مهما قال لكم" لا تحتمل الانتقائية. نحن لا نختار من كلام المسيح ما يناسبنا، بل نقبل "كل ما يخرج من فم الله".
خامساً: دعوة للخضوع العملي
أيها الأحباء، إن طاعة المسيح ليست عبودية، بل هي "حرية مجد أولاد الله". عندما نطيع وصاياه في الطهارة، في المحبة، في العطاء، وفي الصلاة، نحن نفتح الأبواب للمعجزات لتدخل بيوتنا.
يقول الكتاب المقدس: "سامعون عاملين بالكلمة، لا سامعين فقط خادعين نفوسكم" (يعقوب 1: 22). إن المعجزة في قانا لم تحدث بمجرد "سماع" قول المسيح، بل عندما "فعل" الخدام ما قيل لهم.
سادساً: شفاعة السيدة العذراء
نحن في الكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية، نؤمن بقوة شفاعة (Ti-pro-stasia) القديسة مريم. هي "الدالة" التي تقف أمام ابنها الحبيب تطلب عنا. كما شعرت بحاجة أصحاب العرس، هي تشعر بضعفاتنا، وبجفاف المحبة في قلوبنا، وبنفاد "خمر" الرجاء في نفوسنا.
نرفع قلوبنا إليها قائلين: يا والدة الإله، يا من أرشدتِ الخدام للطاعة، أرشدي عقولنا وقلوبنا لنخضع لمشيئة ابنك. أعينينا لنقول في كل تجربة: "مهما قال لنا سنفعل".
خاتمة الرسالة
ليت عرس قانا الجليل يتكرر في كل قلب. لتكن وصية العذراء مريم هي البوصلة التي توجه حياتكم. املأوا أجران قلوبكم بماء التوبة والصلوات، وانتظروا بثقة "لمسة المسيح" التي ستحول كل مرارة في حياتكم إلى خمر فرح لا ينطق به ومجيد.
"ليحل مسيحنا القدوس في بيوتكم، وليبارك أعراسكم، وليملأ قلوبكم من خمره الروحية بصلوات وشفاعات الكلية الطهر مريم العذراء."
