Decision-Making

I celebrate today the 25th anniversary of one of the most significant decisions taken by the great martyr, President Anwar Sadat. This decision, often referred to as the “September Resolution,” reflected his unique vision of leadership and his dedication to Egypt’s future.

Sadat believed in democracy, yet he also recognized the responsibility of protecting the nation at critical moments. His September 1981 decisions — though controversial — were taken to safeguard Egypt’s unity and to secure the final stage of regaining our beloved Sinai. He refused to allow any force to exploit opposition to the peace agreement as a pretext to block the return of Egyptian land.

Despite rising voices against peace, Sadat stood firm, making courageous choices to ensure Egypt’s rightful recovery of its territory — not through endless conflict, but through wisdom and negotiation after war. His actions showed both bravery and foresight, even in the face of sharp criticism.

On this silver jubilee of the September 1981 decision, I salute the courage of Sadat and those who stood with him. Their path was not easy, but it was the right one — securing peace and land for Egypt.

May Egypt always prosper, and may the legacy of Sadat’s leadership and sacrifice continue to inspire us.
