How to Prevent Distortion, Rumors, and Hearsay

Why is listening so difficult, and what can we do about it? Why do rumors and hearsay continue, and how do we stop them? The first step is to uncover the root of these problems, which in turn will provide some solutions.Problem One: People Don’t ListenAlthough studies differ on the matter, many conclude that people speak about 150 to 200 words per minute and think at least 600 words per minute -- and probably a lot faster than that. Whatever the research, it is universally accepted that we all think faster than we speak. Therein lies the challenge. Our brains operate significantly faster than the rate at which someone can speak. When we’re listening to someone, we have the time to add a significant amount to what that person is actually saying to us. We think. We add those extra words. We interpret. We twist. We alter the message! After all, a brain has got to do something with all that extra time! While your boss or your spouse or your best friend is talking, your brain is chugging along, embroidering all manner of frills and lace around the edges of the real message. While your brain is doing all this tinkering with the incoming words, it is also repeatedly hitting the save button, dumping the whole thing -- the real words and the embroidery -- into your memory. The problem is that your brain doesn’t bother to separate that information. So there is just this one file labeled: “Conversation Last Monday with Sally about the New Project,” and everything gets dumped into the file willy-nilly. On Friday afternoon, when you sit down to sort out that conversation about that critical new project, you mentally open the file and start removing pieces of information -- without the slightest clue whether the information you’re extracting is what Sally actually said or some bit of word juggling your bored, overactive mind produced. This is a primary way that misunderstandings come about. Sally said X and you think she said Y -- and you remember it quite clearly! To make matters worse, I recently read one study that said the average attention span of a human being is eight seconds. So, when something you hear triggers a thought, your excess mental capacity wanders off to follow that trail to another thought, then another thought, then another thought… and suddenly you’re daydreaming instead of paying attention to what is really being said.So we alter the messages we hear and our tiny attention spans won’t even let us completely hear anything without disconnecting and wandering. It is a miracle that any messages get through at all. So it’s true -- people don’t listen. If individuals and organizations would simply operate with that understanding, we would all be a lot better off.Problem Two: Hearsay Is Always DistortedUnfortunately, we tend to forget all about childhood games as we get older. But we would all do well to remember the game of telephone and what a kick we got out of the distorted message at the end of the telephone line. The truth is that we encounter an adult version of this phenomenon in the workplace, but we seem to have forgotten the point of the game -- that messages passed from one person to the next get distorted. In fact, in our workplaces, we often think hearsay information is... the truth!Let’s be conservative, and for the sake of this point, assume that people speak at 200 words per minute and people think at 600 words per minute. (The discrepancy is probably a lot worse.) Even in this scenario, we can say that when we tell one person what another person said -- hearsay only one person removed -- the message is garbled, possibly up to and maybe even exceeding, a factor of four. The reason is this: in the 200/600 dichotomy, we have time to add four hundred words to what someone is saying to us – two times the original amount. If we pass what we “heard” along to someone else, they in turn may add their own additional 400 words to what just said, thus creating a factor of four. And that doesn’t even account for exacerbating factors -- such as a listener’s animosity or preoccupation. Such factors could further distort the communicated information.Let’s face it: when someone tells you what someone else said, it is always distorted -- and that is just one person removed! But real life dictates that things usually don’t stop there. In real life that one person tells someone else who in turn tells someone else. That is why the role of “ambassador” in the workplace is problematic.Allow me to examine a typical scenario in which this dynamic plays out. A project manager often acts as an ambassador between the client and the project staff. So the project manager meets with the customer to find out the customer’s desires, goals, and expectations. Later the project manager holds a meeting to inform the project staff what the customer wants. What happens? You guessed it, the information is distorted. In fact, the real-world scenario may be worse. A project manager doesn’t usually get a chance to meet directly with the client. Instead the project manager meets with the client’s assistant. Thus, the client tells the assistant to tell the project manager who tells the people who work on the project what the client wants. It is a miracle that anything is accomplished accurately at all! The truth is -- a lot of the time it doesn’t. And the cost is enormous in terms of productivity, profitability, stress, and decreased morale.SolutionsLack of listening and hearsay information is real problems and should not be ignored. Rather than wishing the problems didn’t exist, follow these twelve rules, and you will see a huge difference.1.Check out rumors by going directly to the source.2.Don’t pass rumors on.3.To ensure clarity, paraphrase back to people what you hear them say and have people paraphrase your statements back to you.4.Take notes and document what someone says in a conversation. Have them verify the documentation is correct. Remember, in a dispute, whoever has the most documentation usually wins!5.Repeat and summarize your message.6.Keep messages as short and simple as possible. Let the details follow your main message, just as newspaper articles are written.7.Establish frequent milestone meetings (to make sure everyone is on the same page). If the project is moving along successfully, you can decrease the frequency of the meetings.8.Develop a powerful network within your organization so you can crosscheck the information you receive.9.If you manage people, pass on information in a lot of different ways (verbal reports, written reports, memos, e-mails, town-hall meetings, websites, etc.) to ensure that people at all levels receive the true message.10.If you manage people, check in with people at all levels to ensure the information they are receiving is accurate and to hear feedback.11.If possible, do not act as an ambassador. Instead, coach, support, and encourage people to talk directly with each other -- especially when they have a problem with each other. If need be, facilitate a meeting between the two parties.12.Eliminate distractions. When someone is talking to you, do not file, type or perform any other activities. If you are on a conference call, exit out of your e-mail program or, better yet, turn your monitor off. Remember, it is hard enough to concentrate on what someone is saying without distractions. If you work with someone who gets easily distracted, try to have any meetings with that person in an area with few distractions. If we accept and remember that people don’t listen and that hearsay information is always distorted, we can develop procedures, processes, and systems that in the end will make everyone’s life easier and more productive. These twelve rules will set you on your way. Don’t just think about implementing them, do it. You can make the difference!

When Speaking Prayers of Faith, Using His Words From the Holy Bible, We Can Expect Things to Happen
“...Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he [says] shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he [says].”-- Mark 11:23 We find ourselves once more looking at this truth that was opened by our Master concerning the mountain being removed at a word of command. Please take notice of the fact that Jesus first spoke the words, “...Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea…” We must assume that the mountain is the symbolic form used to show the accumulation of human anguish and pain caused by sin in this world. We also must see that it is possible to have this mass of human misery removed by speaking the living words of Jesus when we prayer. It is obvious that we can enter in to His faith and connect with His omnipotent power to reach the victory over sin and death while on earth. But we must pray without any doubt in our hearts, so we can share Christ’s faith to achieve the purpose of the Father. When we speak our prayers using His words from the Holy Bible, we have an official reason from Jesus, to expect the things we say to happen. Our prayers can clinch every word of promise and every word of purpose spoken by our Lord in His Word. Our faith and prayers can join His faith and prayers and support Him in the final completion of His and our Father’s will and work. When using this gracious truth for the things which Christ has spoken in clear expressions of eternal truth, it is not hard to understand that our prayer of faith becomes an important part of the whole plan of redemption. We are assured that every word spoken in prayer will be answered in the final return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because it is written,“And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.” Acts 3:20, 21Paul unmistakably shows this final victory of Christ when he said,“Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” — 1 Corinthians 15:24-26Our hope and expectation is built on nothing less then Jesus’ blood and righteousness. For the final rescue from all the effects of evil in our bodies and minds will be accomplished when He comes to be glorified in us, His saints, and to be accepted in all of us who believe in and are waiting for that day. When He appears we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. We will share in His final victory over disease and death. We will hear Him say to that mountain of sufferings, “...Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea...,” and this will happen. In sight of this reassuring hope let us continue to pray in faith, without any doubt in our hearts. Let us rest our faith on the undying love of Christ, asking for nothing more than to be counted worthy of His pleasure to the end of life on this earth, or until He comes for us.

Preparing for Old Age
Socrates was once asked by a pupil, this question: "What kind of people shall we be when we reach Elysium?" And the answer was this: "We shall be the same kind of people that we were here." If there is a life after this, we are preparing for it now, just as I am today preparing for my life tomorrow. What kind of a man shall I be tomorrow? Oh, about the same kind of a man that I am now. The kind of a man that I shall be next month depends upon the kind of a man that I have been this month. If I am miserable today, it is not within the round of probabilities that I shall be supremely happy tomorrow. Heaven is a habit. And if we are going to Heaven we would better be getting used to it. Life is a preparation for the future; and the best preparation for the future is to live as if there were none. We are preparing all the time for old age. The two things that make old age beautiful are resignation and a just consideration for the rights of others. In the play of Ivan the Terrible, the interest centers around one man, the Czar Ivan. If anybody but Richard Mansfield played the part, there would be nothing in it. We simply get a glimpse into the life of a tyrant who has run the full gamut of goosedom, grumpiness, selfishness and grouch. Incidentally this man had the power to put other men to death, and this he does and has done as his whim and temper might dictate. He has been vindictive, cruel, quarrelsome, tyrannical and terrible. Now that he feels the approach of death, he would make his peace with God. But he has delayed that matter too long. He didn't realize in youth and middle life that he was then preparing for old age. Man is the result of cause and effect, and the causes are to a degree in our hands. Life is a fluid, and well has it been called the stream of life we are going, flowing somewhere. Strip Ivan of his robes and crown, and he might be an old farmer and live in Ebenezer. Every town and village has its Ivan. To be an Ivan, just turn your temper loose and practise cruelty on any person or thing within your reach, and the result will be a sure preparation for a querulous, quarrelsome, pickety, snipity, fussy and foolish old age, accented with many outbursts of wrath that are terrible in their futility and ineffectiveness. Babyhood has no monopoly on the tantrum. The characters of King Lear and Ivan the Terrible have much in common. One might almost believe that the writer of Ivan had felt the incompleteness of Lear, and had seen the absurdity of making a melodramatic bid for sympathy in behalf of this old man thrust out by his daughters. Lear, the troublesome, Lear to whose limber tongue there was constantly leaping words unprintable and names of tar, deserves no soft pity at our hands. All his life he had been training his three daughters for exactly the treatment he was to receive. All his life Lear had been lubricating the chute that was to give him a quick ride out into that black midnight storm. "Oh, how sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child," he cries. There is something quite as bad as a thankless child, and that is a thankless parent an irate, irascible parent who possesses an underground vocabulary and a disposition to use it. The false note in Lear lies in giving to him a daughter like Cordelia. Tolstoy and Mansfield ring true, and Ivan the Terrible is what he is without apology, excuse or explanation. Take it or leave it if you do not like plays of this kind, go to see Vaudeville. Mansfield's Ivan is terrible. The Czar is not old in years not over seventy but you can see that Death is sniffing close upon his track. Ivan has lost the power of repose. He cannot listen, weigh and decide he has no thought or consideration for any man or thing this is his habit of life. His bony hands are never still the fingers open and shut, and pick at things eternally. He fumbles the cross on his breast, adjusts his jewels, scratches his cosmos, plays the devil's tattoo, gets up nervously and looks behind the throne, holds his breath to listen. When people address him, he damns them savagely if they kneel, and if they stand upright he accuses them of lack of respect. He asks that he be relieved from the cares of state, and then trembles for fear his people will take him at his word. When asked to remain ruler of Russia he proceeds to curse his councilors and accuses them of loading him with burdens that they themselves would not endeavor to bear. He is a victim of amor senilis, and right here if Mansfield took one step more his realism would be appalling, but he stops in time and suggests what he dares not express. This tottering, doddering, slobbering, sniffling old man is in love he is about to wed a young, beautiful girl. He selects jewels for her he makes remarks about what would become her beauty, jeers and laughs in cracked falsetto. In the animality of youth there is something pleasing it is natural but the vices of an old man, when they have become only mental, are most revolting. The people about Ivan are in mortal terror of him, for he is still the absolute monarch he has the power to promote or disgrace, to take their lives or let them go free. They laugh when he laughs, cry when he does, and watch his fleeting moods with thumping hearts. He is intensely religious and affects the robe and cowl of a priest. Around his neck hangs the crucifix. His fear is that he will die with no opportunity of confession and absolution. He prays to High Heaven every moment, kisses the cross, and his toothless old mouth interjects prayers to God and curses on man in the same breath. If any one is talking to him he looks the other way, slips down until his shoulders occupy the throne, scratches his leg, and keeps up a running comment of insult "Aye," "Oh," "Of course," "Certainly," "Ugh," "Listen to him now!" There is a comedy side to all this which relieves the tragedy and keeps the play from becoming disgusting. Glimpses of Ivan's past are given in his jerky confessions he is the most miserable and unhappy of men, and you behold that he is reaping as he has sown. All his life he has been preparing for this. Each day has been a preparation for the next. Ivan dies in a fit of wrath, hurling curses on his family and court dies in a fit of wrath into which he has been purposely taunted by a man who knows that the outburst is certain to kill the weakened monarch. Where does Ivan the Terrible go when Death closes his eyes? I know not. But this I believe: No confessional can absolve him no priest benefit him no God forgive him. He has damned himself, and he began the work in youth. He was getting ready all his life for this old age, and this old age was getting ready for the fifth act. The playwright does not say so, Mansfield does not say so, but this is the lesson: Hate is a poison wrath is a toxin sensuality leads to death clutching selfishness is a lighting of the fires of hell. It is all a preparation cause and effect. If you are ever absolved, you must absolve yourself, for no one else can. And the sooner you begin, the better. We often hear of the beauties of old age, but the only old age that is beautiful is the one the man has long been preparing for by living a beautiful life. Every one of us are right now preparing for old age. There may be a substitute somewhere in the world for Good Nature, but I do not know where it can be found. The secret of salvation is this: Keep Sweet.

Sad Words.

Bridging Loans: for Easy Home Deals
We may need cash for many purposes and sometimes it is indispensable to get instant cash. There are times when you may have to face problems related to certain financial deals. You want a deal to happen so that you can acquire certain property out of the profit of that deal. This kind of situation arises during a home deal. You want to sell your home for money so that you can buy some other house or property. This particular situation needs both the deals to happen simultaneously which seems quite impossible. The whole process of selling your home and buying a new one takes a lot of time. This time gap between the two deals creates a deadlock. Now what would be your next step? Will you forget your dream home? Not any more. You can avail the opportunity of having a particular type of loan specifically to fill this time gap. These loans are known as bridging loans.Bridging loans help in fulfilling the time gap between your two deals .They are available for several financial purposes. Such loans prove good utility financial instruments if you need instant cash. If you feel you might loose a property purchase because you are still searching for a customer for your old property, then you need a short term secured loan. Bridging loans can help you in this scenario. They take short time for approval. The procedure of acquiring these loans is instant as compared to acquiring regular loans. The financial institution provides you loan up to £500,000 for buying property of your choice. Now you are free to repay the loan once you are able to sell your property. You have a particular time period to do the same.Bridging loans provide you an opportunity by letting you arrange cash and repay your loan in a particular time period. Generally two simultaneous transactions can happen in the provided time period. These days bridging loans for home deals are becoming cost effective. This is because they are secured in nature and the time span for acquiring and repaying back your loan is also small. The borrowers can get the required loan within 5 working days of application. This fact differentiates the bridging loans from the regular loans. A bridging loan raises cash in short time span and they are repaid within a small time. These features make bridging loan cost effective. In the UK these kinds of loans are gaining popularity especially for home deals. Various loan facilities are also available online these days. These facilities are less time consuming and highly convenient.

Team Work.

Team Work.

Talk to any person who has worked as a member of a team. You will get to listen some statements like-1. Nobody will allow you to work in the team.2. One person wants to take credit for the whole work.3. I would have completed the job on my own faster than the team.4. Why do not they tell you and discuss with you about the members of the team beforehand?5. I will never again work in a team. And many other such statements will be heard. Why?Can one escape from teamwork? That looks difficult because no person specializes in all the disciplines. If you have to develop a product, you must have a team of designers, production and marketing staff along with the finance people. That brings us to the matter of co-ordination. The leader of the team is supposed to co-ordinate the work done by others. So the responsibility of failure if any, must first lie with the team leader. What should a team leader do? The team leader should first draw the goals, time parameters and work process that needs to done to achieve the targets. Ideally the leader should then discuss all these issues with all the members of the team and get their suggestions and approval. What if friction develops at this stage itself? The team leader has to smoothen the process by discussing the pros and cons very thoroughly and make everyone feel as if it was their decision. The leader must have some qualities for better co-ordination of the team. Give respect to all the members. Give all the members a patient hearing. Listen to their problems and address them as soon as possible. Anticipate friction and arrange to avoid that happening. If this is done, the team will give co-coordinated results. These are some secrets of co-ordination in a teamwork.

Meaning of Life.

The meaning of life, as long as the word “meaning" has a meaning to it like having your health and happiness then the meaning of life will mean living life to the full. Whereas in contrast, deteriorating health in ones body and gloom in ones habitat, then the meaning of life becomes not so meaningful. There are so many happenings and reasons in our life throughout the years of our existence on this earth which encourages us all to look at life differently to that of others, however, feelings are feelings and emotions - emotions that we were all blessed with at birth, so, the biggest majority of the world population will see eye to eye on the whole entity of life, when love is all around. Loving someone and have them love you back gives meaning to our lives. Loving who you are and all that encompasses your presence and loving god, surely are all positive symbols that prove that this is all it takes to make the world a better place. A global spread of blissful happiness includes having settlement of mind, i.e. peace in your life. A stranger is a friend you have never met who loves loving too, so start to today and make the world you live in a better place by making friends. What is that true saying “all good things come to an end", how very true, therefore leaving us with meanings that makes no sense? Now we have to contend with the most evil contender of all, hate. Hatred is a powerful emotion that can hamper how a person thinks and behaves. It is because of hate we find ourselves living in a world full of sorrow and grief where we are slowly drowning in our own tears. Millions and millions of people from all around the world in synchronised thought has begun to question - just what is the meaning of life, when they have lost the will to live.Love and harmony the perfect duo a match made in heaven, and that is where you end up when you feel your life has no meaning. Life is short so live it to the full. Make your life meaningful and live as long as you can and die when can not help it.

If you want to work at home and have good typing skills, working online might be right for you. A growing number of companies are hiring people to work at home typing online. Employers are waking up to the idea that they don't need to rent office space to keep their employees corralled from 9-5, and they like the idea that they can save all sorts of overheads by employing people to work at home. This arrangement benefits the bosses by saving them money and it benefits the staff by enabling them to work where they want to be: at home. What sort of home typing jobs are available? There is no shortage of variety for work at home typists. Work at home typing online jobs include all the clerical/secretarial roles you would expect to find in any office. There are also home typing jobs which are purely internet-based and consist of things such as typing classified advertisements into online forms for companies or typing short articles onto blogs. There is also specialised work at home typing online in fields such as medical billing and medical transcription. Some work at home typing online jobs are, quite frankly, repetitive and boring. It is best, therefore, to consider exactly what sort of typing work you would enjoy doing day in and day out before you start actively seeking a work at home typing position. If you want easy part time work you can do at home, typing classified advertisements into online forms is an easy way to make money. You can choose your own hours and just work for a couple of hours each day. If you want something more creative, a blog posting job might be more suitable for you.Do I need experience to get a work at home typing job? Many work at home typing online jobs require no previous related experience and can be done by anyone with reasonable typing skills. These jobs include the classified ad typing and blog posting positions. The companies hiring people to do this sort of typing work online will provide full training and show you exactly where and how to post the ads and deal with enquiries or feedback. The main drawback with this type of work is that there is a huge amount of competition (as there is for any work at home job). So, if you have previous experience in medical transcription or customer services, this will give you an advantage if you choose to work in one of those fields. What about work at home typing online scams? There are scams relating to work at home and typing online jobs have their share. Some scams are obvious and you can almost "smell" them when you see their advertisements, but others are more difficult to detect. One thing to remember is that you should ask yourself "why would anyone pay me to do that?". If you can't think of a single reasonable answer, you could be looking at a scam that will cost you money or, worse still, something that will involve you in illegal activity. If in doubt, let the dubious opportunity pass and carry on looking. There are plenty of legitimate work at home typing online opportunities around for people of all levels of skill and experience, just remember to be careful to avoid scams and to pick the kind of work you will enjoy doing.

The First.

The Gospel of Matthew is the only one to mention the flight to Egypt made by Joseph and Mary with the infant Jesus, or to recall the Old Testament verse “Out of Egypt have I called my Son”. He was referring to the prophecy made in the Book of Hosea 11:1. Their journey crossing THE SINAI DESERT down to Egypt, and their time in exile there, followed in the path of a tradition that goes back to the very roots of the Bible. The Old Testament book of Genesis tells of the journey the Patriarch Abraham made down to Egypt. He arrived in Canaan, still called Abram, and was promised the land by God: “Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South. And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the Land”. Genesis 12:9-10. Abraham’s great-grandson Joseph, famous for his coat of many colours, was sold by his brothers and taken as a slave into Egypt. By accurately interpreting the Pharaoh’s dreams he eventually rose to become the most powerful man in the land after the king himself. Later, when famine again struck Canaan, Joseph’s brothers also went down to Egypt. And so the Children of Israel came to dwell in Egypt, where they multiplied through the generations until “there arose a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph”. It is generally believed that this would have been the mighty pharaoh, Ramses II, who reigned in 3,000 BC for 66 years, sired 90 children and carved his name onto more colossal buildings than any other pharaoh before or after him. He ordered the Children of Israel to be enslaved and put them to work constructing Egypt’s great cities. Fearful of their numbers he ordered the sons of the Hebrews to be killed. One babe, however, was saved and set afloat in the Nile. Rescued by the daughter of Pharaoh she brought the child up as her own. This was child was Moses, who grew up as a prince of Egypt but eventually set his people free, leading them on the Exodus out of bondage and back to the Promised Land. The Sinai Desert is a 24,000 square mile land-bridge linking Africa with Asia. This wedge-shaped peninsula thrusts itself into the Red Sea creating the Gulfs of Suez to the southwest and Aqaba to the southeast. To the north it is bound by the Mediterranean Sea. Its sparkling blue waters and long stretches of the bright yellow sand give the Sinai some of the most magnificent beaches in the region. Many of these, especially along the Gulf shore at Ras Muhammed and Ras Burkar, are famed as among the finest coral reefs in the world. The savage beauty of the Sinai Desert is a mixture of bare craggy mountains, dry rocky valleys and endlessly shifting sand dunes. It is here, in the Sinai Desert, that God taught His people to trust in His care and provision. Daniel Achon http://www.biblelandshop.net/
