قال علماء في إسرائيل إنهم استطاعوا تطوير طريقة لتشخيص الإصابة بمرض سرطان الرئة بفحص الزفير الذي يطلقه المشتبه بإصابته بالمرض.ونشرت نتائج البحث الذي أجراه فريق في المعهد الإسرائيلي للتقنية وترأسه حسام حايك في مجلة "نانوتكنولوجي".0وتمكن العلماء من بناء جهاز اختبار كان قادرا في 86% من الحالات على التقاط بعض الجزيئات التي يدل وجودها على الإصابة بالمرض، وقبل أن تصبح قابلة لالتقاطها بأشعة إكس.ويأمل هؤلاء في تطوير الجهاز بحيث تكون تكلفتة بسيطة، صغير الحجم يمكن نقله بسهولة، وسهل الاستعمال بحيث يمكن لأطباء الأسرة استخدامه للكشف عن المرض الذي لا يتم اكتشافه عادة إلا في مراحل متأخرة.ويستخدم الجهاز ذرات النانو الذهبية لالتقاط ما يعرف بالمركبات العضوية المتطايرة (في أو سي) التي تقاس بعدة أجزاء للمليار والتي ترتفع نسبتها في مرضى السرطان.كما يعتقد العلماء بأنه يمكن تطوير الجهاز لاكتشاف أنواع أخرى من السرطان.ومرض سرطان الرئة والذي يصيب المدخنين بشكل رئيسي هو أشد أنواع السرطان فتكا بالإنسان.والاكتشاف المبكر لسرطان الرئة يضاعف نسبة الشفاء منه. ولا تزيد حاليا نسبة اكتشاف المرض في مراحله المبكرة وقبل انتشاره عن 15%.0
