المدخنون أكثر عرضة للإصابة بالسل


حذرت دراسة طبية أجريت مؤخرا المدخنين من أنهم أكثر عرضة للإصابة بمرض السل بمرتين الضعف عن نظرائهم الذين لم يسبق لهم التدخين داعية في الوقت ذاته إلى تشديد الإجراءات تجاه المدخنين. وشملت الدراسة التي أجرها عدد من المختصين على مدى ثلاث سنوات 18 ألف شخص من شرائح مختلفة في تايوان. وخلصت الدراسة إلى وجود شقين لخطر الإصابة بمرض السل النشط عند المدخنين مقارنة بالذين لم يسبق لهم التدخين مطلقا. وقالت الدراسة التي نشرتها المجلة الأميركية لأمراض الجهاز التنفسي والعناية الطبية المركزة إن واحدا من ثلاثة أشخاص في العالم مصابين بالسل إلا أن 90 بالمئة منهم سوف يبقون في حالة عدوى كامنة وأن الـ10 بالمئة الباقية سوف يتطور لديهم السل النشط ويصابون بالمرض في وقت خلال حياتهم بسبب ضعف جهاز المناعة لديهم كأن يلقى مرضى نقص المناعة المكتسبة الإيدز نتيجة الإصابة بمرض السل. وشملت الدراسة 893,3 من المدخنين و552 ممن اقلعوا عن التدخين و254,13 لم يسبق لهم التدخين مطلقاً وقد أدت الدراسة إلى ظهور 57 حالة إصابة جديدة بداء السل في نهاية الدراسة التي استمرت ثلاثة أعوام. وأخذت الدراسة بعين الاعتبار عوامل مثل الجنس والعمر ومكان العيش والدخل العائلي والحالة الاجتماعية وتعاطي الكحول. وأكد الباحثون في الدراسة أن المدخنين أكثر عرضة من غيرهم للإصابة بمرض السل. وقالت الدراسة إن أجسام المدخنين أقل قدرة على محاربة الفيروسات والبكتيريا المتطفلة على الجسم. ولا يزال مرض السل من الأمراض الأولى المسببة للوفاة حول العالم حيث ظهرت نحو 3.9 ملايين إصابة في العام 2007 وتوفي منهم 8.1 مليون شخص. وتأمل منظمة الصحة العالمية في أن تخفض معدل الوفاة نتيجة الإصابة بالسل إلى نحو وفاة واحدة من أصل مليون شخص بحلول عام 2050.
